Parisand Taipei,June 4, 2012 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris
and NYSE: ALU) is to transform the network of Chunghwa
Telecom (CHT), Taiwan's leading communications service
provider, to dramatically boost its speed, performance and
efficiency in serving residential, business and mobile
broadband customers.
Demand in Taiwan for high-speed broadband access, IPTV
services, mobile video and gaming is expanding dramatically,
and to meet this demand, CHT is deploying Multi-Service Edge
Router (MSER) network from Alcatel-Lucent. Based on the
state-of-the-art IP/MPLS routing technology,the MSER network
will support all of CHT's fixed and mobile broadband network
to simplify network structure, reduce the cost of operations
and build up a high service quality and reliability
network.
Thanks to intelligence within the Alcatel-Lucent routers, CHT
will be able to deliver enhanced residential video and
business services, such as virtual private networks, with the
support of capabilities such as video optimization and
'Application Assurance', which can guarantee that
services are delivered with certain specified quality
levels.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its industry-leading IP/MPLS solution, based on its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR). Alcatel-Lucent will also provide CHT with a set of comprehensive professional services including project management, network design, installation and commissioning, software integration and operations.
