Newcomer Sonetik makes Switzerland's best-selling hearing aid

7 October 2015, Zurich, Switzerland - GOhear, made by Swiss hearing system company Sonetik, is Switzerland's best-selling hearing aid. This is a remarkable achievement as it means that a hearing aid from a young Swiss company selling through pharmacies and drug stores has been able to outsell established manufacturers distributing from specialist hearing aid centres.

Around 60,000 hearing aids are sold in Switzerland each year (source: http://www.hsm-schweiz.ch/aktuell/zahlen-und-fakten/). Today, the Sonetik GOhear hearing aid is market leader with a market share of around 10 %. Leading devices from competitors only sell half as many units (source: manufacturer's information & BSV's study "Analyse der Preise in der Hörgeräteversorgung").

Switzerland's best-selling hearing aid is sold through new channels such as pharmacies and drug stores. "Swiss customers have rapidly accepted the new distribution channels and the positive figures would suggest they are very happy with this," says Christian Stromsted, founder and CEO of Sonetik. Sonetik has 317 sales outlets in Switzerland. Stromsted emphasises three aspects in particular that have made Sonetik hearing aids so popular with customers:

1. Sonetik hearing aids have been developed to take away the need for long and complicated adjustments. Customers can have their hearing tested free of charge in just 10 minutes. Should the automatic heating test software detect a typical age-related loss of hearing, the software will suggest an appropriate Sonetik hearing aid. As a result, after just one hour, the customer can choose whether to take one or two hearing aids home for trial, or buy the one they need there and then.
2. Sonetik GOhearing aids cost 495 Swiss francs, which represents an excellent price/performance ratio.
3. Sonetik hearing aids - just like the more costly alternatives available from hearing aid centres - are covered by AHV/IV insurance.

Sonetik is working hard to export its Swiss success story to other markets. The biggest markets outside Switzerland are the UK and USA. In the UK Sonetik is working with one of the country's biggest pharmacy chains (LloydsPharmacy) and in the USA with general practitioners.
