An ethos of academic excellence underpins the significant success achieved by learners from one of the country's top private education providers.

Results released yesterday for learners who wrote the Independent Examination Board exams revealed that 7 of the top 56 outstanding achievers in South Africa studied at an ADvTECH school. At 12.5% this is by far the highest representation from any private school group in the country. Five of the top learners hail from ADvTECH's Crawford Colleges nationwide, with two representing the Centurus schools from Tyger Valley College in Pretoria.

'We wish to congratulate these learners for their significant achievement, and hope that they will work towards making substantial contributions to the future of our country,' says Joao Luis, ADvTECH Schools' Head of Academics.

Luis says it is clear that ADvTECH's ongoing strategy focusing on academic excellence continues to bear fruit. The groups of schools continually work towards best practice, employing highly effective and well researched methodologies.

'The time has passed where education means imparting static knowledge to learners, who cram and try to recall as best they can at exam time,' he says.

'A quality education which prepares learners for the challenges of the future, is one which develops critical thinkers who can navigate the new context in which our world finds itself, which requires a new and different set of global competencies.'

Luis says the schools division strategy has sought to ensure that ADvTECH learners progress incrementally in a learning environment that is inspiring, engaging and challenging.

'More than mere subject theory delivery, our focus has also been extended to enhancing essential 21 century global competencies which include digital literacy and global citizenship.

'Our methodologies and the pedagogy employed in engaging the students in subject focused curricula is rigorous and aligned to best practice in ensuring that our students perform optimally in the demanding set of examinations that enable access to tertiary studies at the end of 12 years of schooling. But more than that, the ongoing individual student progress is supported by continual analysis of student performance data, promoting a personalised learning pathway as identified for every student.

'We believe that our consistently exemplary matric results, which inevitably include a notable number of distinctions and top learners as is the case this year, are clear indicators that we offer the highest standard in education.'
