Madrid, January 20, 2012.- Abengoa (MCE: ABG) the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the energy and environment sectors, has been presented with the Internationalization Award 2010 by the Círculo de Empresarios business association, which was received by the Vice-chairman of Abengoa, José B. Terceiro.

Members of the Círculo de Empresarios highlighted the significance of the federal loan guarantee granted to Abengoa by the US Department of Energy (DOE) in July 2010, worth $1.2 billion, which helped to finalize the funding with the Federal Financing Bank (FFB) and to begin construction of Solana.

At the awards ceremony, presided by His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón, the Círculo also presented awards to seven other Spanish companies for projects and activities carried out abroad in 2010.

In addition to the awards, and following the tradition in recent years, the President of the Círculo de Empresarios, Claudio Boada, and the Director of the Lauder Institute of Management & International Studies of the Wharton School, Mauro F. Guillén, used the occasion to present the "Yearbook on the Internationalization of Spanish Companies 2011", jointly published by both institutions.

The Solana plant, some 100 kilometers south west of Phoenix, close to Gila Bend in Arizona, will generate enough energy for 70,000 households and will prevent annual emissions of 475,000 tons of CO2 compared to a natural gas plant.

Solana is the first solar plant in the United States with the ability to store the energy that it produces. The plant will have a storage capacity of six hours of thermal energy using molten salts, which will enable it to produce electricity when it is cloudy or after the sun has set. Thanks to this capacity, Solana will produce energy during the night, satisfying the peak demand for electricity in this area during the summer months.

The construction and operation of Solana will generate significant economic and environmental benefits for the State of Arizona, and will contribute to meeting the national energy independence targets set by the "green economy". Abengoa estimates that the Solana project will generate between 1,600 and 1,700 new jobs during its construction, and 85 permanent positions. Approximately 98% of the jobs created will be American, mainly from Arizona, as well as from other neighboring states. Likewise, around 75% of the equipment and inputs required to construct Solana will be manufactured in the USA.
