thredUP.com, the leading online shop to buy and sell like-new women’s and kids’ clothing, today announced the opening of its second distribution center in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The company has leased 137,000 square feet outside of Harrisburg to propel growth into the New Year, following a $27 million financing round this past year. With sales tripling, and a doubling of employee headcount, thredUP is poised to accelerate its market leadership in the secondhand resale space.

The Mechanicsburg distribution center will serve as a model for thredUP’s continued operational expansion over the next few years. The new facility will double the amount of clothing the company can process and make available to customers this year. Having raised more than $53 million and now with the largest distribution network in the sector, thredUP will deliver a best-in-class customer experience for buying and selling clothes. thredUP plans to process half a million items each month and maintain the widest selection of secondhand inventory anywhere. With its east coast facility, transit times for all customers will be competitive with the best e-commerce operations in the industry.

“I’m excited to be working with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the excellent Cumberland County workforce to open thredUP’s second distribution center,” said John Voris, Chief Operating Officer at thredUP and former Vice President of Operations Engineering at Netflix. “Many of our best suppliers and customers are located on the east coast, and I look forward to improving their service with much faster in-transit times while also increasing our capacity to support our growth.”

The Mechanicsburg location was selected based on proximity to the Martinsburg, West Virginia SmartPost Hub and the Harrisburg FedEx Hub combined with access to a great workforce and Pennsylvania’s investment in job creation. A unique attribute of thredUP’s business model is that all permanent employees are offered stock options and therefore have the opportunity to partake in the success of the company as a part-owner.

“I’ve always believed the success of sharing economy companies hinges on who owns the inventory. By establishing bi-coastal distribution, we will more than double our supply of clothes, shoes and accessories, provide increased selection and better service to our customers,” said James Reinhart, CEO and Co-Founder of thredUP. “With the introduction of higher-end women’s clothes and handbags last year, we’re simultaneously increasing the quantity and the quality of our apparel selection.”

thredUP is the only place to buy and sell both women’s and kids’ clothing online, and pioneered the Clean Out Bag, the most convenient way to get rid of the clothes you’re no longer wearing or the kids have outgrown. To learn more about thredUP and to order a Clean Out Bag visit thredUP.com.
