Shares of power producers rose as traders rotated into defensive sectors.

Constraints including the volatility of solar and wind power reserves will likely limit renewable power generation to a roughly 20% to 40% share of the total power supply in most markets over the next decades, according to investment advisory firm SailingStone.

German utility E.ON struck a deal with Norwegian concern Horisont Energi to develop joint European emissions-control operations, including end-to-end carbon capture, transport and storage service. Shares of Horisont surged.
