Emergency Relief Provided for Low-Income Families

CHATHAM, ON, Jan., 27, 2015 - Union Gas is launching its annual Winter Warmth program, which offers emergency relief to low-income families who have difficulty paying their natural gas bills.

Winter Warmth is designed for eligible low-income natural gas customers who have exhausted all other sources of financial support. Approved households may receive one grant (up to $500 maximum) each year. The program runs year-round and is administered by United Way Chatham-Kent and operates in partnership with 30 community agencies across Ontario.

"Households may require extra support to get through the winter months and beyond," said Steve Baker, president of Union Gas. "We're proud to offer that support through the Winter Warmth program, as well as other energy conservation programs, to help our customers save money and energy."

Since 2007, overt 10,000 low-income families in communities served by Union Gas have received assistance from Winter Warmth, through emergency relief grants totaling over $5 million.
