STILLWATER, Okla. - The fifth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys bounced back from a Saturday-night loss to No. 3 Mizzou with an overpowering 31-3 win over Big 12 opponent Iowa State on Sunday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla.

'Overall, I thought we gutted through a few of those matches,' Oklahoma State coach John Smith said. 'I think this weekend we struggled when the matches got tough. We wrestled to win by one or to win on the scoreboard. We just focused too much on the outcome rather than the performance. That's one thing we need to take to the room this week.'

The Cowboys (9-3 overall, 5-0 Big 12) won nine of the afternoon's 10 bouts, collecting two bonus-point wins to surge past the Cyclones (6-7, 1-4 Big 12). Bonus came from Nick Piccininni at 125 pounds and Chandler Rogers at 165 pounds.

Returning All-American Piccininni rolled to a fast 15-0 technical fall over Sinjin Briggs. The Cowboy scored 12 points in the first period before wrapping up the match early in the second period.

At 165 pounds, All-American Chandler Rogers, ranked No. 7 in the nation, notched a second pin in as many days, sticking Brady Jennings in only 1:07 to spur the Cowboys to a 19-3 lead.

'It was a good match,' Rogers said. 'I'm just trying to have fun and take things back to the way they were. I got into a funk for a while, so I'm just trying to go out and be aggressive and do the things that I know I do best.'

Two-time NCAA champion and fourth-ranked Dean Heil went 0-2 on the weekend for the Cowboys, falling to unranked Ian Parker. It was only Parker's second appearance at 141 pounds for the Cyclones after Kanen Storr vacated the spot and was granted a release from the Iowa State program last week.

The two exchanged escapes in the second and third periods, but a late third-period takedown made the difference for Parker, who walked away with a 3-1 decision.

'I just wanted to make it the toughest match that I can and hopefully come out victorious,' Parker said. 'It came time for that third period and I knew I could just keep shooting and hand fighting. I got in on a shot and tried to hook the leg or get him in danger, and I ended up getting the takedown.'

It was Parker's first career win over a top-five opponent and his second win of the weekend. In his 141-pound debut on Friday night, he defeated Mike Longo of Oklahoma.

Heil also lost on Saturday night to No. 5 Jaydin Eierman in the dual against No. 3 Mizzou.

The Cowboys went on to win the next seven matches to split the weekend of duals, 1-1.

  • During the 157-pound match, OSU was deducted a team point on a bench warning
  • OSU backups Hestin Lamons and Andrew Marsden saw action on Sunday. Both won.
  • OSU is back in action on Feb. 3 against Northern Iowa and Iowa State will wrestle at North Dakota State on Feb. 2.
