UNDP Global Shared Service Centre (GSSC) won the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) special award for Non-MSC Shared Service & Outsourcing (SSO), recently for contributions to the Shared Service & Outsourcing industry in Malaysia.
The award was accepted by Mr. John Kidd, Chief of the UNDP GSSC at the MSC SSO Night of Excellence 2014 Awards, in mid-december.
"We thank MDeC for the award and also the Government of Malaysia for their support over the last three years. We are very satisfied with our choice of Malaysia. Our staff count has increased from 30 in 2012 to 60 presently and we hope to double that number in 2015," Kidd said.
The Centre, which officially began operations on January 1, 2012, was established to support UNDP's adoption of "best practice" International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and represents a key step towards increasing transparency, accountability and raising financial management standards.
The Centre is supporting the three most challenging areas of UNDP's Financial Management processes including revenue, asset and very soon, expense management. It offers both transactional and advisory support services to UNDP offices worldwide serving 177 countries and territories across multiple time zones.
Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, UNDP Resident Representative for Malaysia added, "The award is evidence of our varied contributions to development in Malaysia and specifically the shared services and outsourcing industry. The UN system has also a significant presence with the WHO Global Service Center in Cyberjaya and the WFP Regional Humanitarian Depot for the Asia-Pacific Region in Subang."
"[These] UN Organizations and many more together...are all working with the government and other national partners for the continued inclusive development of Malaysia." IPSAS aims to improve the quality of general purpose financial reporting by public sector entities, leading to better informed assessments of the resource allocation decisions made by governments, and thereby increasing transparency and accountability.
As the Government of Malaysia moves to implement International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) across all government agencies, the GSSC is assisting the Government of Malaysia's move to IPSAS by providing support through best practices of IPSAS.
