UITP Secretary General Alain Flausch was invited yesterday to participate in the Transforming Transportation Conference in Washington DC, an annual event co-organised by the World Bank, the WRI and EMBARQ.

The theme of this year's edition was, 'Beyond commitments: sustainable mobility for all,' and he used the platform in the plenary session to speak about the need for strong political will to ensure stronger action on cutting emissions and the necessity of collaboration between all players involved.

Mr Flausch also spoke about the problem of air pollution in cities in countries such as India and China creating a 'needed shock' to spur greater action and how public transport can play a vital role in creating greener cities.

The World Bank is a component of the World Bank Group, and a member of the United Nations Development Group. The EMBARQ Network is the World Resources Institute (WRI) signature initiative for sustainable transport and urban development.
