U S Senate Committee on Environment and Public Wo : Inhofe Statement on BLM’s Methane Rule

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement today after the Bureau of Land Management announcement proposing their new methane rule:

'Even the impending DC snow storm can't stop the Obama administration from continuing its war against domestic fossil fuel production. This duplicative and unnecessary rule is the latest effort aimed at shoring up the president's global warming legacy at the expense of the oil and gas industry, which has been the lone bright spot in the economy over the last seven years. Despite the fact that methane emissions from oil and gas exploration and production are only a mere 1.07 percent of total national greenhouse gas emissions - and emissions have shrank significantly while production has skyrocketed - this is one of five policies the federal government is pursuing aimed at solving a methane problem that doesn't exist. In typical fashion, this is a solution in search of a problem as the Obama administration continues it's 'crucify them' approach to U.S. job creators whose business doesn't rely only on costly government handouts.'
