DUMAS - A regional sorghum meeting hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be held Jan. 26 at the Moore County Community Center, 1600 S. Maddox St. in Dumas.

The meeting will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and the program at 8:30 a.m. There will be a $10 fee, which includes lunch, said Danny Nusser, AgriLife Extension North Region program leader in Amarillo.

Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units in integrated pest management will be offered.

The program topics and speakers will be:

- Sorghum Soil and Water Relationships - Dr. Charles Hillyer, AgriLife Extension irrigation specialist in Amarillo, and Dr. Calvin Trostle, AgriLife Extension agronomist in Lubbock. The two specialists will address crop water requirements, soil moisture management, irrigation technologies and best management practices to improve water use efficiency, as well as agronomic relationship to water use.

- Sugarcane Aphid - Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Amarillo. Bynum will discuss biology and history, control options both chemical and cultural, resistant/tolerant sorghum varieties, effects on forage and silage production, and future research.

- Weed Management Options - Trostle. Trostle will address problem weeds and biology, a plan for success, tillage and pre-emergent control, herbicide options and mode of actions, effective timing and application, and rotational considerations.

The keynote lunch topic will be Risk Management/Profitability Outlook, presented by Dr. Steve Amosson, AgriLife Extension economist, and DeDe Jones, AgriLife Extension risk management program specialist, both from Amarillo.
