Bern, 26.01.2013 - A meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, today concluded the talks held by Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Previously, the Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) had held discussions with other high-ranking politicians and finance ministers.

The Swiss National Bank Chairman, Thomas Jordan, also took part in the talks held today with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. Issues to do with the current IMF quota and governance reforms were discussed.

On Thursday, Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf began her talks at this year's WEF Annual Meeting with a meeting with the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy, Mario Monti, which was attended also by President Ueli Maurer. Both sides agreed to continue with the current work on finding a solution to financial and fiscal policy problems at a technical level. The Italian government is prohibited from conducting actual negotiations during the transition period leading up to the elections.

On Friday, Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf met the French Finance Minister, Pierre Moscovici. Both ministers reiterated their readiness to continue the structured dialogue on all pending bilateral tax issues which was started in December 2012. Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf held other talks with Belgium's Finance Minister, Steven Vanackere, and Ireland's Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, during which she explained the Swiss model of final withholding tax and discussed corporate taxation issues. Together with Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf also received Michel Barnier, the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, for talks.

The planned meeting with Wolfgang Schäuble had to be cancelled. The German Finance Minister was unable to attend this year's WEF Annual Meeting due to health reasons.
