Bomgar, the leader in enterprise remote support solutions, today announced that District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties is using its solution to provide efficient remote support. Located in South Carolina just northwest of Columbia, District Five encompasses a land area of approximately 196 square miles and operates a total of 12 elementary schools, four middle schools, five high schools, and one alternative school.

The District Five IT team is responsible for supporting hundreds of desktops, laptops and servers throughout 22 different schools. Prior to Bomgar, the team used free remote support tools to connect to these systems and provide tech support. “We didn’t have a consistent remote support tool or approach,” said Nathan Childs, lead technician. “The more we used those tools, the more we realized they lacked many functions that we needed. The free tools were also starting to prompt our users to sign up for services, and we didn’t want them to do that.”

Knowing there were more robust solutions available, Childs began researching alternatives online and found Bomgar. “I compared it with some other offerings, and selected Bomgar Remote Support based on it meeting all of our requirements.”

Being able to perform remote restart on devices was District Five’s biggest need. “We perform restarts on our remote machines on a daily basis, and with Bomgar’s ability to see and control the remote machine, we can do these much more quickly,” Childs said. “Most of our users are teachers with different levels of technology knowledge, so being able to see what they see helps both us and them when resolving issues. We are able to get them back up and running with little to no classroom interruption.”

Using Bomgar, District Five is able to remain compliant with education industry standards such as HIPAA, CIPA and COPA. “Security was definitely an important aspect for us, especially as sensitive student and employee information is stored within our networks. Bomgar gives us the confidence that such data remains safe,” Childs explained.

Looking ahead, Childs hopes to use Bomgar to support iPads and Chromebooks. “All of our middle school and high school teachers are given iPads, and once we’ve gotten further in our deployment, we plan to offer remote support on those devices. Some of our students use Chromebooks while they are here, and we’d like to offer them the same support as well.”
