KUCHING, SATURDAY, 17 DECEMBER 2016: Power supply to Igan, Matu and Daro in Mukah was fully restored at 4.48am after works to replace a broken electricity pole at Jalan Senau-Igan was completed early this morning.

The electricity pole broke when a tree fell on the 33kV lines around 5pm yesterday. Site investigation found that there was land clearing activity in the area, believed to be for farming purposes, prior to the incident.

Sarawak Energy Regional Manager for Central Region, Hajah Peridah Samawi said, 'The repair work took a while to complete because it was night time. The erection of the new pole had to be done manually as the damaged pole was located across a wide monsoon drain inaccessible by crane. Nevertheless, the response team worked through the night to ensure restoration of supply to affected customers was done in the shortest time possible.

'To ensure safety and avoid unnecessary power disruption, we would like to advise members of the public to be careful at all times and avoid working too close to power lines and facilities. Fallen live cables can cause electrocution. Please call our Customer Care Centre at 1300 88 3111 immediately to report any fallen lines or electricity poles. Your prompt action can save lives,' added Peridah.
