The cost index for buses had a 3.6 per cent hike from the 3rd quarter of 2012. The index increased by 0.8 per cent in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2013.

A simultaneous increase in all the sub-indices, with the exception of the sub-index of capital, contributed for the increase in costs.

Higher administrative costs

The composite index for administrative costs increased the most, by 4.2 per cent, from the 3rd quarter of 2012 to the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Labour cost continue to grow

The index for labour costs had an annual increase of 2.8 per cent from the 3rd quarter of 2012. With a total weight share of about 56 per cent, the index for labour costs was a major contributor to the changes in the total cost index for buses.

The diesel index and the index for repair and maintenance costs increased by 2.8 per cent each.

The sub-index for capital costs fell from 92.8 during the 3rd quarter of 2012 to 89.7 in the 3rd quarter of 2013; a decline of 3.1 per cent.
