Rivada Networks today announced that it has been awarded a further patent for its signature enhanced location-based solution technology. Patent number 15/362,046, “Methods and Systems for Providing Enhanced Location Based Information for Wireless Handsets”, for which a notice of allowance was issued on Jan. 5, lists Rivada’s Chief Scientist, Clint Smith, and Rivada’s Purnina Surampudi, as co-inventors.

The new patent further improves Rivada’s “eLBS” technology, which allows a mobile or IOT device to improve its position using a unique triangulation procedure. Specifically, the new patent enables a mobile device, using eLBS, to generate a three-dimensional position estimate by using time of flight between mobile devices, and by then determining each component vector. The technology then updates the trilateration position value based on the generated three dimensional position estimate.

Commenting on the patent award, Rivada Chief Scientist Clint Smith said:

Unlike traditional triangulation, eLBS is not dependent on fixed infrastructure such as beacons, and has the ability to improve positional awareness using only itself as the reference.

“eLBS, as patented by Rivada Networks, allows location to be identified precisely in three dimensions. By triangulating off the device’s own previous estimates of its location, eLBS enables us to triangulate the precise location of a device in all three dimensions with tremendous accuracy.”
