WASHINGTON, D.C - Today, Rep. Ruben J. Kihuen sent the below letter to Ambassador Robert E. Lighthizer, the United States Trade Representative, following reports earlier in the week that President Trump has chosen to impose a 30 percent tariff on imported solar cells and modules:

'Imposing tariffs on our solar energy sector underscores just how little President Trump understands about the ramifications of his flippant policy decisions. Tariffs on imported solar cells will hamper our country's ability to grow our solar industry and will increase energy prices for consumers. Rather than provide economic security for Americans, this poor attempt by President Trump to appear tough on China will threaten thousands of solar installation jobs in Nevada, just as the industry has begun to recover after several years of stalled growth. Putting thousands of good-paying jobs in Nevada and across the country at risk is irresponsible and shameful. The President's decision should be reversed.'
