Prime Minister Trudeau met with Chancellor Merkel of Germany today on the margins of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

The two leaders discussed priorities for Canada's 2018 G7 Presidency and Summit in La Malbaie on June 8-9, 2018, including a focus on gender equality and oceans. The Prime Minister set out Canada's plans to create a gender council to advise on all aspects of the G7 agenda. The Chancellor welcomed this, noting the important initiatives made with respect to women entrepreneurs at last year's G20 Summit.

The leaders also discussed political developments in Germany as well as international trade negotiations.
