Advertised Prices for Dairy Products at Major Retail Supermarket Outlets ending during the period of 01/07/2022 to 01/13/2022

The total number of conventional dairy ads grew by 15 percent this week. Organic ad numbers increased 183 percent. During this 2022 January cold spell, frequent number one advertised item conventional ice cream in 48 - 64- oz containers yielded to conventional 4-6 oz Greek yogurt as the most advertised dairy product. The weighted average advertised price for 4-6 oz Greek yogurt, $.98, is up $.02 from last week. Butter remains popular after year-end holidays, with conventional 1# container ad numbers up 3 percent. The average price, $3.38,is up $.41.

Conventional yogurt ad numbers slightly more than doubled. Organic yogurt ad numbers increased 45 percent. The vast majority of organic yogurt ads are for 32 oz organic yogurt. The average price, $3.28, is down $.76. Ad numbers for this item nearly tripled.

Ads for conventional cheese decreased 10 percent from last week. There are no advertised organic cheese products present in this week's survey. Conventional 8-ounce shred cheese is the most advertised cheese item and is featured in 13 percent more ads than last week. The national weighted average advertised price for conventional 8- ounce shred rose by $.03 to $2.36.

Ads for both organic and conventional half gallons of milk nearly quadrupled. Conventional half gallon milk has a national weighted average advertised price of $1.52. Organic half gallons have a national weighted average advertised price of $4.10, resulting in a $2.58 organic milk price premium.
