NGSA Statement on FERC Action on DOE NOPR

(Washington, D.C.) - The Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) released the following statement on the news that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) today closed its rulemaking on the Department of Energy's proposed rule on grid resiliency, and opened a new docket directing the RTOs/ISOs to provide information on resiliency.

Dena E. Wiggins, president and CEO of NGSA said:

"We are pleased that FERC rejected the approach initially proposed by DOE, which would have undermined competitive power markets and hurt consumers without bolstering reliability.

"Reliability of the bulk power system is an important issue that warrants attention and we commend Chairman McIntyre and the Commission for adopting a thoughtful and measured approach to evaluating resilience in the organized electricity markets.

"We firmly believe that natural gas is a reliability asset in the power sector, as proven repeatedly by its excellent performance during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and during last week's extreme cold weather event that set records for natural gas demand in the markets.

"We look forward to engaging in the process as it moves forward."
