Along with many fruits and vegetable cauliflowers have become inexplicably expensive. Canadians are also seeing the same trend with skyrocketing housing prices and rising transportation costs. It was revealed this morning that the rate of inflation in Canada increased by 1.6% in December but families that already struggling to make ends meet don't need official statistics to tell them that.

'It is bizarre that, in a country like Canada, cauliflower has now become a luxury item.. The upcoming budget will be an opportunity for the Liberals to take concrete action to reduce inequality. It's completely unacceptable that families can no longer afford fresh vegetables,' said NDP Finance critic Guy Caron (Rimouski-Neigette-Témiscouata-Les Basques).

The Statistics Canada report revealed this morning that inflation is at its highest level in over a year and the food sector is the hardest hit. The cost of fresh produce increased by 13.3% in December compared with the previous year.
