Italy is ever closer to Sudan, with new trade and financial agreements in the pipeline. An important sign comes from the Khartoum International Fair, the Country's leading trade show open to international companies interested in closing business and joint venture agreements with Sudanese companies. The red, green and white ribbon-cutting inaugural ceremony at the Italian Pavilion was performed by the Vice President of Sudan, Hassan Saleh Bakri, in the presence of the Italian Foreign Ministry's Director General for African Countries, Min. Raffaele de Lutio. 'There couldn't have been a better beginning for an initiative that for a whole week in January attracts a large number of Italian companies seeking to establish partnerships with Sudanese companies,' reads a notice by the Italian Embassy. The 34 edition of the International Fair, a landmark event for commercial exchange and promotion between Sudan and the European, Arab, African and Latin American Countries, will run until 30 January. In Khartoum, in representation of Italy, will be the Khartoum Electric Industries, Ortea, Italfarad, BDF Industries, Caprari, Pentax abd Fiorentini. An innovative element will be the presence of officials from the Italian-Arab Chamber of Commerce, whose renewed interest for Sudan is a hopeful sign of a possible positive domino effect on the members of the Rome-based Chamber. Throughout the week, the Italian Embassy will organise B2B meetings and forums between Italian participants and Sudanese public and private institutions. Attention is already being focused on the projects in the pipeline: 'The next key event will be an Italian-Sudanese business and economic forum in Khartoum at the end of April,' said the Italian Ambassador to Sudan, Fabrizio Lobasso. He went on: 'The Sudanese requested it with great enthusiasm and we intend to grasp this opportunity to continue bringing the best of Italian businesses to Sudan, maybe even led by some top-ranking institutional official. We have to push on the accelerator; we're already working on it.'
