1. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will attend the sixth vice foreign ministerial meeting among the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan in Washington DC, the US, on January 5. The US and Japanese head delegates to the meeting will be Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Vice Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama, respectively.

2. In the forthcoming meeting, the three sides will discuss comprehensively and in depth nuclear and other issues of North Korea as well as ways to work together on regional and global issues.

° The meeting is expected to focus on ways for the ROK, the US and Japan to work more closely together in responding to North Korea's threats and provocations, and to monitor and strengthen the enforcement of sanctions against the North.

° The three sides are also expected to extensively discuss ways to step up trilateral cooperation on regional and global issues, including space, development and global health.

3. The ROK government is mulling over holding bilateral vice foreign ministerial meetings with the US and Japan on the sidelines of the trilateral one.
