Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, accompanied by Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, took part this morning in a breakfast meeting attended by the ambassadors of the EU member states, at the invitation of Patrick Mifsud, Ambassador of Malta.

Malta has held the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union since January 1, 2017.

Jean-Marc Ayrault paid tribute to the Slovak presidency's contribution during the second half of 2016 and assured the Maltese presidency of France's support for efforts to ensure progress on all major challenges facing Europe, whether with respect to the security and protection of Europeans, the control of the EU's external borders, or the strengthening of sustainable growth and employment.

Malta will host the meeting of EU heads of state and government on February 3, which will notably examine the progress made with respect to the priorities identified in Bratislava in support of a strong and united Europe.
