AUSTRALIA DAY RECEPTION 2018

Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong attended Australia Day Reception 2018 on behalf of the Malaysian Government yesterday evening in KLCC, organized by the Australian High Commission.

2. During the celebration, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong acknowledged the healthy trade relationship between Malaysia and Australia, with Australia remaining among Malaysia's top 10 export destinations.

3. Both countries have benefited from two free trade agreements, the bilateral Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA) and the regional ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

4. The Minister celebrated the growth of Malaysian exports to Australia, which saw an increase of 25% to RM30 billion for the period of January to November of 2016 to 2017, with November's export performance increasing by 22% to RM3.3 billion.

5. The Minister also highlighted the increased performance of palm oil exports to Australia, which increased by 13% to 142,105 tonnes for the period of January to November of 2016 to 2017.

6. The minister ended his speech by thanking the out-going High Commissioner, His Excellency Roderick Richard Campbell Smith, and welcomed the in-coming High Commissioner, His Excellency Andrew Goledzinowski.

7. The minister expressed hope that the good trade relationship between both countries will continue, strengthening and flourishing both economies in the spirit of free and open trade.
