The Montana Farm Bureau thanks Senator Steve Daines for his ongoing efforts to defeat the Environmental Protection Agency's Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule. The Senate failed to gain enough votes to override President Obama's veto of legislation to stop EPA's egregious overreach.

'We are very grateful to Senator Daines for realizing how detrimental WOTUS would be to private property owners, farmers and ranchers, and opposing this federal overreach,' noted Montana Farm Bureau President Bob Hanson. 'We are dismayed that Senator Tester once again voted along party lines and did not vote in support of the Montana's property owners, farmers and ranchers.'

Daines had helped introduce Senate Joint Resolution 22 which would have disapproved of EPA's WOTUS rule and also had co-sponsored S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, which would have directed the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers to revise WOTUS. Representative Ryan Zinke had voted, as well, to oppose the WOTUS rule in the House of Representatives, which was also appreciated by Farm Bureau.

'Farm Bureau will continue to fight against WOTUS, and we are proud to have Senator Daines and Representative Zinke understand the importance of defeating this detrimental regulation,' said Hanson.
