£13 billion of edible food was needlessly thrown away from our homes in 2015. If this 7.3 million tonnes of food waste could be prevented, it would have the environmental benefits of taking one in four cars off the roads.

Charities, including Keep Britain Tidy, are already working with councils, businesses and schools to help tackle food waste. Our recent work with Surrey Council helped them increase their food waste recycling by 21% and saved the council over £100,000. And children across our thousands of Eco-Schools are making reductions in food waste in their schools and homes.

Sometimes the simplest changes can make the biggest difference. Many supermarkets are already pledging to change their ways to help us reduce our food waste, like improving packaging, making labels clearer or stopping buy-one-get-one-free promotions on fruit and veg.

But we can all do things in our own homes and weekly shops too. Check out www.lovefoodhatewaste.com for ideas, tips and recipes.
