A new community centre in Redbank Plains moved a step closer to reality with draft plans endorsed to inform the final design to be built on council-owned land at 180 School Road.

The proposed centre would be located at the heart of a future local commercial centre to service the increased population in one of Ipswich's fastest growing areas.

Deputy Mayor and City Management, Finance and Community Engagement Committee Chairman Councillor Paul Tully said the centre would be designed to meet the growth demands of Redbank Plains and the wider Ipswich community.

'The draft plans include a community hall which can be divided into up to three separate areas,' Cr Tully said.

'Three offices will be available to deliver government and non-government services.

'It is anticipated the centre will be equipped with Wi-Fi and the latest audio and visual technology.

'Extra features include an amenities' and parents' room, an outdoor space under a covered veranda and car park.'

Division 9 Councillor Sheila Ireland said Redbank Plains was now home to 18,000 residents and with current and proposed residential development this number would only increase.

'To support this growth Ipswich City Council has been given a $1 million commitment from the Queensland Government towards the estimated total cost of $1.8 million,' Cr Ireland said.

'With money secured we can now progress to the final planning stage.'
