Iowa City Update: Home energy audits, Climate Change Steering Committee, and stuffed animal sleepover at the library

Iowa City Update is a weekly video program designed to keep you informed on projects and programs being brought to you by the City of Iowa City. Each week you can learn about the exciting events and important topics taking place in our great city. Here is what you can expect to learn in this week's episode:

Green Iowa AmeriCorps is teaming up with the City of Iowa City to perform energy audits. The goal of the joint effort is to inspect audits on the City's 91 municipally-owned properties for low-income residents. The AmeriCorp team will also check homes of any Iowa City residents, but give first access to groups such as veterans or the elderly. These audits evaluate how much energy a home consumes and what can be done to fix it to make it more efficient. You can learn more about or request an audit on the Green Iowa AmeriCorps website.

Applications will soon be opening up for the Climate Change Steering Committee. As part of the City's greenhouse gas reduction plan, a committee of up to 12 local community members will be selected to identify and execute ways to reduce emissions. Applicants should demonstrate their background and knowledge of climate change. City Council will review the language in those applications during the Council meeting on January 17th, after which the application process will be opened up. The Iowa City Public Library is holding a stuffed animal sleepover! Kids are invited to bring a stuffed animal to storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on either January 18th or 19th. After reading books and singing songs, kids will leave the stuffed animal behind to spend the night at the library. Come back the next day to pick up your stuffed animals and look at the photos of what the animals were up to during their slumber party! For more information call the library at 319-356-5200.
