Shares of industrial and transportation companies ticked down after an unexpected up-tick in inflation.

Should wholesale inflation pick up in data due Friday, investors may start to fret about the impact of shipping disruptions on the Panama and Suez canals.

Federal regulators formally notified Boeing that it is being investigated following an incident with its 737 MAX 9 plane. Boeing slipped 2% and is now down by more than 13% for the year to date.

Rental-car chain Hertz Global said it was selling about 20,000 electric vehicles from its fleet, the latest sign that a recent surge in electric-car adoption has hit the skids.
