Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has officially proclaimed Jan. 22-28 as “School Choice Week” for the Badger State. He joins 14 other governors and more than 500 mayors and county leaders nationwide who have issued similar proclamations in their states and cities.

More than 21,000 events nationwide, including more than 400 in Wisconsin, will comprise the largest-ever celebration of opportunity in education. National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical effort seeking to raise awareness and start conversations across the country about the need for and benefits of educational opportunity. Events include rallies, roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, school fairs, and more.

“We are grateful that Governor Walker has made School Choice Week official in Wisconsin,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “The momentum of the school choice movement around the country shows that parents want more choices for their children. It’s exciting to watch more and more opportunities becoming available to children and more parents taking those opportunities to provide the best possible education for their kids.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
