The call for Public Procurement of Innovative solutions (PPI) closed in September 2016. The PPI is catalysing the efforts to vitalise the European HPC ecosystem with a better coordination of supply and demand in a European acquisition market for HPC. It is a first step in the coordination of Member States' acquisition of leading-class supercomputers available to users at national and European levels. This joint procurement (under grant agreement preparation) is a very important contribution to the achievement of the goals of the European Cloud Initiative. Ultimately, this will strengthen the position of Europe as a world-class HPC hub, with more leading-class HPC computing resources and services available for European academia and industry through PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe).
