Project Overview

We'll complete our 2020 Spring Maintenance Turnaround safely and effectively with the support of the Building Trades unions and professional skilled tradespeople like you. For more than 50 years, Syncrude has been one of Canada's most trusted, stable and reliable companies, and North America's most respected oil sands operator.

Project Taurus is a Turnaround Event on Syncrude's 8-2 Coker and associated process units. A large contingent of craft personnel will be required to execute this project of approximately 1.4M work hours.

Pre-Turnaround work will commence in the winter for select trades; mechanical work will follow.

Craft personnel supporting the Critical Path will be on 12-hour shifts; unless otherwise required.

Accommodation will be provided at the Athabasca and Beaver River Lodges - operated by Civeo, which are located close to Syncrude's Mildred Lake site. Bus transportation between the Lodges and the Syncrude worksite will be provided.

Travel assistance protocol will be available to secure specific craft.

Craft personnel will also enjoy complimentary coach transport and free passes to the amenities of MacDonald Island Park, including the fitness center, indoor running track, aquatic center, six ice/curling rinks, badminton courts, squash and racquetball courts, climbing wall, 18-hole golf course, driving range and restaurants

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Badges

Syncrude will be using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) badges for the 2020 Taurus Turnaround. This initiative reinforces Syncrude's commitment to the safety of everyone on site and our collective journey to achieving 'Nobody Gets Hurt'. It will also improve project execution.

All contractors and Syncrude personnel explicitly identified as supporting the Taurus Turnaround will be required to wear an RFID badge as part of their mandatory PPE. Contractor personnel will receive their RFID badges as part of the ID badging process, which will be conducted at camp as they check in. Contractors already on site will be identified and receive their RFID badge through contractor leadership or by visiting the Location Services Team in the SPOC located in building 2050, adjacent to building 325 complex.

Travel & Accommodations

Lodging and food are hosted by Syncrude at Civeo's Athabasca and Beaver River Lodges for the duration of your contract. Bus transportation between the Lodges and the Syncrude worksite is also complimentary and for Taurus 2020 Syncrude will provide uninterrupted transportation services from Athabasca and Beaver River camps to four designated work locations at Syncrude Mildred Lake Site. Pre-identified buses will service building 1055 (Conversion area), building 51 (Utilities and Offsite) 1294 complex (Hydroprocessing main) and MLV turnstiles. Confirm your work location with your employer prior to boarding, as buses only stop at one of the four designated site locations. Syncrude ID card swipes will be conducted at camps bus terminals for Site Access, as well busing schedules will be posted and available at the lodges and on civeo.com/syncrude for your convenience as these schedules are subject to frequent changes.

• All rooms are equipped with TVs, desks, lockable storage and dresser and telephones for internal use and local calls.
• Towels provided; changed every 6-7 days

• Athabasca and Beaver River Lodge are conveniently equipped with vending machines stocked with your everyday essentials.

Travel to Fort McMurray and back to your home destination is your responsibility. In some instances, the Travel Protocol will be reviewed if needed to secure specific craft.

The Syncrude Mildred Lake site is about 50 km north of Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM).

The site is also immediately adjacent to Highway 63, which is now twinned.

The Syncrude-affiliated Civeo Athabasca and Beaver River Lodges are conveniently located close to our work site.

Enjoy outdoor pursuits such as hiking, biking, kayaking, snowmobiling, quadding, boating, river tubing and ice fishing. And, because your lodge is only 40 minutes from Fort McMurray, you can check out the city's restaurants, pubs, Vista Ridge All Seasons Park, Snye Park & Boat Launch, and enjoy complimentary coach transport and free passes to MacDonald Island Park, the largest community recreation facility in Canada, and home to premier concerts and sporting events at Shell Place.
