Shares of energy companies rallied as investors chased a resurgence in oil-and-gas prices.

Oil futures continued to gain on the implications of production cuts by major producing nations, closing at a 10-month high above $53 a barrel in New York.

The price of natural gas hit a three-week high of $2.75-a-million-British thermal units, in anticipation of more frigid weather in major U.S. urban centers.
