WIESBADEN- The Federation, Länderand municipalities spent a total of about 32.2 billion euros on public children and youth welfare in 2012. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that expenditure thus rose 5.6% on 2011. After deduction of receipts to the amount of approximately 2.4 billion euros - among other things from charges and attendance fees - the public sector spent a net amount of about 29.8 billion euros. Compared with 2011, that was a 6.8% increase. 

Day care for children accounted for the largest proportion of gross expenditure (about 20.4 billion euros or 63%), which was an increase of 7.0% on 2011.
