WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 24, 2017 - U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, made the following statement in response to President Trump signing orders today to advance construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines:

'I commend President Trump's swift action to move forward with the building of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. Opponents of these pipelines, including our former president, incorrectly claimed the pipelines would not benefit the U.S. just so they could advance their radical anti-energy agendas. That is simply untrue, and it is about time we finish these important infrastructure projects and put America's national interests first.

'These pipelines will provide energy security, create jobs, boost our economy, and keep energy costs low for American families.Canada alone has the third-largest oil reserves in the world, and by connecting them to the most sophisticated oil-producing region in the Gulf Coast, the U.S. can achieve long-term economic benefits and energy security.

'A majority of Americans support the construction of these pipelines, and their voices have been ignored for far too long. I am committed to working with President Trump to advance a safe and vital infrastructure that will strengthen our nation's energy supply and create thousands of good-paying jobs for Americans across our nation.'
