The Delta and AeroMexico pilots, as represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) and the Asociación Sindical de Pilotos Aviadores (ASPA), entered into a joint protocol.

The pilot unions recognize that the airline industry in general, and our airlines in particular, are faced with a dynamic airline environment. As such, the respective airlines desire to maximize the potential of their relationship with each other by entering into an advanced code share and equity investment by Delta Air Lines. This combination may have significant long-term effects on pilots represented by ALPA and ASPA.

The protocol's basic objectives include:

  • The establishment of an ongoing dialogue and exchange of information between the two signatory unions related to the special relationship between our companies’ managements.
  • The sharing of knowledge and experience in the airline industry, including details of our collective bargaining agreements, national laws and regulations.
  • The sharing of other information important to protect and enhance our professional interests.
  • The avoidance of any action that could reduce the leverage available for the AeroMexico or Delta pilot groups.
  • The preparation for the further development of the commercial relationship between AeroMexico and Delta to include a joint venture.

The Delta MEC and AeroMexico ASPA believe that mutual cooperation and unity of purpose are essential to protect their mutual professional interests in relation to the AeroMexico/Delta relationship. To further their mutual goals, the unions committed to a timely exchange of information, development of a common strategy and additional protocols, and to use all appropriate lawful actions to protect their members' contractual rights and professional interests.

Founded in 1931, The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents nearly 51,000 pilots at 31 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org and the Delta MEC website at www.deltapilots.org.
