'With domestic gas production, we can and want to make a contribution towards achieving the climate protection goals of the German Federal Government for the year 2050', declared Dirk Warzecha, Chief Operating Officer of DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG yesterday at the annual energy industry conference of Handelsblatt in Berlin.

In a panel discussion, Dirk Warzecha took a stance on the topic 'Future of the gas market - prospects for a clean, affordable and diversified energy supply'. 'Natural gas, as a climate-friendly and affordable source of energy, gives us the opportunity to achieve a decisive and speedy success story regarding the climate track record within the scope of the decarbonisation process. Thanks to its low CO emissions and its high level of energy efficiency, natural gas has immense potential to play a decisive role in the energy supply as a partner to renewables in the coming decades', said Warzecha.

'Germany can benefit in many respects from its domestic gas production. This applies to jobs, the flexible availability, the security of supply and last but not least, the production royalty, from which Federal and regional authorities benefit', emphasises DEA's Board member. For DEA, a German company operating with an international reach, domestic production is a cornerstone of its business, not only with respect to key economic figures, but also regarding the technical expertise of the specialists, working in the German oil and gas industry.

'In the interests of climate and energy policy and in order to facilitate the restructuring and conversion of the energy system, Germany needs clear political parameters, vision and the courage to take economically sensible decisions', Warzecha pointed out.
