“We are extremely honored to have been chosen by Cupertino Electric for this gift,” said Kevin Richardson, director of volunteer engagement with Feed the Children. “With this generous donation, we at Feed the Children will be able to help so many more children in Southern California with fully-stocked backpacks to fuel their educational and emotional growth. We are thankful that Cupertino Electric employees understand that investing in our organization is investing in the futures of children in need.”

About Cupertino Electric’s $60K Nonprofit Giveaway

In early December 2014, Cupertino Electric launched a month-long $60K Nonprofit Giveaway to celebrate the company’s 60th year in business. Charities interested in being considered for a $60,000 donation had to create and upload short videos describing the impact that they would make with the donated funds. In addition to uploading videos, the organizations had to be established for at least five years, located near where Cupertino Electric employees live or work, submit a questionnaire and tax information, and provide either shelter, food, or early-childhood education-related services. The videos of all qualified organizations that met the competition rules were carefully screened by employees, who ultimately chose the recipient organization.

Donation Fuels Backpack Program

With a mission of providing hope and resources to those without life’s essentials, Feed the Children is one of the largest charities based in the United States. Last year, the nonprofit organization distributed 65,000 backpacks filled with school and personal-hygiene supplies to homeless children in partnership with the National Association for Education of Homeless Children and Youth. With Cupertino Electric’s $60,000 donation, Feed the Children will serve another 3,000 children with backpacks filled and distributed by Cupertino Electric employees located in Southern California.

“We are honored to help Feed the Children, and to recognize the important work of all of the nonprofit organizations that participated in our competition and continue to make a positive impact in our community every single day,” said John Boncher, president and chief executive officer of Cupertino Electric, Inc.
