Prevent unwanted kitten litters for only 5 cents with the help of the Plano Animal Shelter. Make your male cat's appointment for Nickel Neutering on Tuesday, Feb. 27 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Cats can be neutering at as young as 7-8 weeks or 2.5 pounds, which makes this the perfect time to get those Christmas kittens. Neuter your boy before the age of 5 months to get the most of these benefits:

  • He'll have less urge to spray urine and the scent is less intense.
  • His instinct to defend his territory is reduced so he's less likely to fight and get injured.
  • You'll lower his risk of getting feline leukemia and feline AIDS - both spread by bites from infected cats- and diseases related to cat mating.
  • It prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
  • His natural tendency to seek out a mate is reduced so he's less likely to roam or escape your home, where he might be hit by a car crossing an alleyway or street or eat something dangerous.
  • Enjoy the cost savings of caring for one cat rather than feeding, vaccinating, housing and caring for a whole litter.

Bring your cat to his Nickel Neuter day appointment at the Plano Animal Shelter, 4028 W. Plano Parkway, in a pet carrier labeled with your (the owner's) name. Written proof of his current rabies and FVRCP vaccinations must be provided or, if needed, can be administered for $9.95 for one shot or $19.95 for both. This is also a great time to have your cat microchipped for an additional $10.

You do not have to live in Plano to participate. Unfortunately, we cannot do feral cats at this event. Cats belonging to Plano residents are required to have their city registration up to date. City registration for each cat is only $10 or $5 if the owner is a senior citizen or has proof of being low-income. Visit petdata.com to ensure you bring all required documentation and information for pet registration.

This Animal Shelter event recognizes Spay Day USA by providing affordable access to neutering for cat owners. Neutering and spaying are essential to reducing pet overpopulation. Do your part - make an appointment for your pet.

If you can't make it to this event, check out the Plano Animal Shelter's listing of local low cost spay and neuter services.

Nickel Neutering appointments are limited to 100 cats, so call our Animal Shelter today at 972-769-4374.
