DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - Jan 6, 2014) - Law schools are often criticized for their lack of practical skills training. But the University of Florida Levin College of Law, in partnership with Catalyst, is offering students an innovative e-discovery course that provides practical, hands-on training in technology-assisted review and other advanced e-discovery techniques.

The course, "Electronic Discovery Data Analysis and Review," will be offered in the spring semester starting Jan. 6, 2014. The principal instructor will be William "Bill" Hamilton, partner at Quarles & Brady and executive director of the UF Law E-Discovery Project. Lectures will also be presented by Catalyst founder and CEO John Tredennick and by Catalyst search and analytics professionals.

This is an advanced course for second- and third-year law students who have completed an introduction to e-discovery. Students who complete the course will qualify to become certified users of Catalyst Insight, Catalyst's next-generation search and review platform.

To power the course, Catalyst is providing the students with an e-discovery "sandbox" that will include more than 800,000 Enron documents. Students will be able to use it to perform class assignments and experiment with the cloud-based search technology of Catalyst Insight.

"The students appreciate that the skills they learn in this course will enhance their careers no matter what directions they may take," said Hamilton, who is also the provost of Bryan University and dean of its e-discovery programs. "We emphasize that the program is not just for students who are oriented toward a career in electronic discovery, but for students interested in any number of career options."

"We at Catalyst are thrilled to play a role in this innovative educational program," said Tredennick. "As a long-time litigator myself, I understand that practical training in law school can jump start a young lawyer's career, and e-discovery is a skill that will be highly valued for years to come."
