Kentucky DOT in Williamsburg purchases an AccuBatch® brine maker to combat winter weather
The AccuBatch brine maker, shown here, is manufactured by Cargill Deicing Technology and capable of producing up to 800 gallons of brine per batch.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Thursday, January 9, 2014 - Kentucky DOT in Williamsburg has made a significant investment in public safety by purchasing an AccuBatch® brine maker to help stay ahead of winter weather events.

The AccuBatch® brine maker is manufactured by Cargill Deicing Technology. Capable of producing up to 800 gallons per batch, the AccuBatch® brine maker is the only model at its price point to feature automated, direct salinity concentration measurement. This will save the state valuable labor time and guarantee the proper salinity concentration with every batch they produce.

"This AccuBatch® salt brine unit will allow our employees to be more efficient, freeing up valuable time to perform other important duties maintaining our roadways" stated Michael Calebs, Branch Manager for the Kentucky Department of Highways. "This unit will allow the precise concentration of salt and water to be produced without constant monitoring. The salt brine made with this new unit will allow increased pre-treating of roadways in advance of snow events to improve road conditions."

The plug and play design of the AccuBatch® brine maker allows for easy setup and operation. In addition, the cleanout process takes only minutes to complete and can be done simply by pulling on a lever to open a valve that releases excess salt and sediment. Made from marine-grade fiberglass, this two tank design is durable, dependable and a very cost-effective way to make salt brine.

"This unit replaces a much older salt brine generator, and should provide years of successful service to the Department of Highways in Whitley County" said Wayne Hurst, Maintenance Superintendent. "The old unit was slow and on cold winter days it was a bad job for employees to stand outside and continually monitor while making salt brine."

The AccuBatch® brine maker is the second brine making system to be offered by Cargill Deicing Technology, joining their fully-automated system, the AccuBrine® automated brine maker.
