OTTAWA--Canadian economic output picked up in November thanks to the strongest growth by manufacturers and other goods-producing industries since the start of 2023.

Gross domestic product, a broad measure of goods and services produced across the economy, increased 0.2% from the month before to 2.212 trillion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of $1.651 trillion, Statistics Canada said Wednesday. Economists were expecting GDP to edge up 0.1%, after remaining essentially unchanged for a third straight month in October, according to economists at TD Securities.

On a one-year basis, GDP rose 1.1%.

The data agency said that advance information indicates GDP advanced 0.3% month-over-month in December, though the estimate will be updated when official data is release at the end of next month.
