CTS North America, a market leader in providing financial institutions with branch automation and merchant cash and check processing solutions, announced today from the National Retail Federation's 103rd Annual Convention & Expo the availability of its new line of cash automation solutions for the retail market. CTS North America has been at the forefront of the cash and item processing revolution within the financial services industry and is now leveraging that market intelligence and experience to help retailers achieve greater efficiencies and profitability in their cash management.

Cash is still heavily used by consumers for purchases (representing more than one third of total payment methods) which makes the ability to effectively handle a high volume of cash transactions a critical component of success for retailers. Through its advanced engineering and knowledge of customer-facing applications and deposit environments, CTS has designed a complete set of cash automation solutions specifically for the retail markets, including:

  • CS1one and CSeXtra: Unlike existing merchant deposit solutions, CTS' technology processes cash at a very high speed and loads deposits into patented auto-sealing plastic bags instead of more expensive plastic/metal cassettes. After validation, bills are stacked face-to-face into the bag increasing efficiency at point of sale (POS) and saving preparation time for CIT withdrawals. The solutions are equipped with CTS' exclusive validation technology to identify all of the security features on the most current bills, further preventing fraud. In addition, scalable deposit configurations allow the solutions to handle small, medium and larger volumes of cash and meet different customer needs.

  • CM18B: Combining cash recycling and deposit capabilities, the CM18B is a complete cash automation solution for retail back-office environments. Reusable and deposited bills are transferred into a secure internal safe and separated into either one of the recycling modules or a self-sealing, tamper-evident deposit bag. Once processed, the notes are accessible only through user validation, increasing the level of security. Removing the need to count and verify banknotes means that retailers can dedicate more of their attention to other added value activities.
  • Cash Till Recycler: A compact cash-recycler developed for the retail checkout area, the Cash Till Recycler is placed next to or under a POS terminal and supports cashiers' daily activities. The machine reduces shrinkage risks and increases security at checkout by enabling payments and providing the exact amount of returned change. The Cash Till Recycler supports a multitude of businesses including supermarkets, small shops, restaurants and other retailers.

"From the smallest environment to the largest wholesaler, retailers share the need to be able to reconcile and deposit cash. Automation is key to handling the high volume of cash in today's environment and, moving forward, merchants will need to maximize efficiency to combat the increased costs per transaction as cash usage declines," said Luca Spina, marketing manager of CTS Electronics. "As a market leader to the retail banking industry, CTS has already begun revising cash-management strategies for several years and has the expertise to guide merchants as they now make the same transition."
