COSATU meeting with ANC

19 January 2016

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) can confirm that we have met with the ANC on Monday the18 January 2016, regarding our concerns about the new tax amendment laws and its effects on worker's retirement funds.

While there was an agreement for further engagement on this issue, our concerns have regrettably not been addressed to our satisfaction.

We reiterate our firm opposition to this law.

We are determined to execute our federation's congress resolution on this matter. We simply do not accept the National Treasury ' s unilateral decision about workers wages.

Retirement fund are deferred wages. Workers must be properly consulted and be allowed to decide on any key decision about their monies.
We call on workers, all our affiliates and society in general to mobilize against these unacceptable retirement fund tax laws.

Importantly, we call on all workers not to resign from their jobs, while we mobilize to crush this new law. There is no imminent threat that workers will lose their retirement funds.

This is a fight we are determined to win.
