SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 28, 2014) - SpiderOak, the 'Zero-Knowledge' privacy cloud technologies provider, is committing to Data Privacy Day by engaging the community in new ways. As the company broadens and elevates its privacy approach into the large concept of Privacy-as-a-Platform™, education and user engagement are paramount.

"In 2014, users and corporations are acutely aware of the porous state of privacy on the Internet, from the NSA to Big Data," said SpiderOak CEO Ethan Oberman. "We at SpiderOak are engaging with a complete ecosystem of privacy tools, from storage to app development on web and mobile to content sharing and collaboration. As another Data Privacy Day arrives, people are searching for complete privacy solutions, not just Band-Aids."

SpiderOak Celebrates Data Privacy Day

SpiderOak is one of over 130 organizations enrolled as a Champion of Data Privacy Day. To further educate and involve users around online privacy, the company launched two successful community initiatives:

1. The My Privacy IQ Quiz

SpiderOak's Zero-Knowledge Privacy Foundation, in conjunction with StaySafeOnline.org, is running a 10-question quiz that helps users determine their online privacy knowledge and receive helpful pointers.

Of the 500 people who took the quiz to date, 55% are doing an "OK job" protecting their privacy. 35% are doing a "great job" and 10% aren't doing well. The average score is 87%, indicating that users are aware of online privacy and looking to take it into their own hands.

2. Privacy Tips

SpiderOak issued a call for privacy tips from users, asking for tips that can help others protect their privacy online. The initiative generated an overwhelming response, hundreds of responses on Twitter and Facebook. In addition, SpiderOak is offering 28% off all yearly plans between January 27-31.
