AmeriHealth New Jersey today announced that the company is offering telemedicine—the option to access health care virtually—to all of its fully-insured members and their dependents at no additional cost. The service is available through MDLIVE, an on-demand telehealth company, which enables members to gain access to board-certified doctors by HIPAA secure video, phone, or via the MDLIVE mobile app. All consultations are confidential and compliant with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

“Not every medical concern warrants a trip to the doctor—some issues can be resolved with a conversation over the phone or through video chat,” said Dr. Frank L. Urbano, MD, MBA, FACP, senior medical director at AmeriHealth New Jersey. “Access to telemedicine provides health care right at our fingertips, using the devices we rely on every day for so many other things.”

MDLIVE phone consultations are available 24/7/365, while video consultations are available during the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., 7 days a week or by scheduled availability.

Members can use MDLIVE for a number of situations:

  • For non-emergency medical issues—especially as an alternative to the high cost of an emergency room or urgent care center
  • Anytime, including nights, weekends and even holidays in most states
  • When their doctor or pediatrician is not available
  • When it’s not convenient to leave home or work
  • When traveling and need non-emergency medical care
  • To get a prescription*

Once members activate an account, they can browse doctor profiles, view available appointments, and schedule an appointment with the doctor of their choice. To activate, members can call 1-888-976-7405, log on to MDLIVE.com/amerihealthnj, or download the MDLIVE mobile app.
