Dr. Guaning is the President of Nanyang Technological University.
He is also a Board member of Defence Science and Technology Agency, a member of the Economic Development Board Executive Committee, Board member of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Biomedical Research Council, Biomedical Sciences Executive Committee, Science & Engineering Research Council, Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and honorary advisory council member of Singapore Computer Society.
On 15th March 2000 he set up the Defence Science and Technology Agency, the procurement, R&D, IT and construction agency for the Ministry of Defence, and served as Chief Executive until coming to Nanyang Technological University as President (Designate) on 1st December 2002.
Dr Su has served on numerous boards since 1979.
From 1991 to 2001 he served on the National Science and Technology Board, including two years as Deputy Chairman.
He is currently serving on the board of the second Singapore Telco, Starhub and Singapore Millennium Foundation.
He is also Advisor to a start-up company, Bitwave Pte Ltd.
Dr. Guaning was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1989, the Public Service Medal in 1997 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold), the Long Service Medal in 1998 by the President of the Republic of Singapore and the National Science and Technology Medal in 2003.
A previous holder of the Singapore President’s Scholarship, he graduated with B.Sc., M.S.
and Ph.D.
degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Alberta, California Institute of Technology and Stanford University respectively.
He attended post-graduate programmes in Business Administration at University of Singapore and Harvard Business School.
