Profile

Prior to joining the Slater Fund, Dr. Unterman served as Senior Vice President, Technology Development, and Chief Scientific Officer at Envirogen, Inc., an environmental biotechnology company he co-founded.
Envirogen grew to become the leading public company in the business of microbial destruction of toxic pollutants, prior to being sold to Shaw Environmental.
Dr. Unterman was also a founding Board member of About.com, an internet start-up company that created the first information network to integrate the power of the internet with human "guides." About.com became one of the top five websites in the world for viewer visits.
In his role as Director, Dr. Unterman helped direct the company's growth from inception through IPO, to 600 employees, and its ultimate sale to Primedia (resold to the New York Times in 2005).
Prior to launching Envirogen, Dr. Unterman was a staff scientist and later manager of the Environmental Technology Program at General Electric’s Corporate R & D Center in New York.
Dr. Unterman holds a Ph.D.
in Biochemistry from Columbia University and a B.A.
in Biology from Haverford College.
